When taking up the reins an even pressure is applied to the bars and tongue. The tongue and bars are not squeezed laterally. The use of bit guards prevents lip pinching. The 3 ring bit combines an effective lateral restriction, lever and elevator action in one. The degree of effect is selected by the different buckling possibilities for the reins.
